Artificial Intelligence
I'm finding more and more authors who think they can get away with using AI as opposed to a human yet I still find errors in books when they try that method.
Authors think they can run it through AI and fix all the mistakes. But what AI doesn't pick up is random knowledge I have or if the author somehow changes the name of a character halfway through a book. Which is surprisingly more often than you would think! AI does great at fixing missing quotation marks or misspellings. But it's not so good at catching a phrase or awkwardly worded sentence that takes a reader out of the story because it doesn't fit with the rest of the prose. That's where I've found a niche that even most other proofreaders don't catch.
I once got a client because she had written something about a fishtank but had freshwater and saltwater fish in a saltwater tank. The freshwater fish would die in minutes if you did that. That's something only a true nerd like me would catch.
